This year, I will be taking Spanish 2 and even though it is required, I would still be taking it if it wasn't because I think that I can get a lot out of this class. One thing that I hope to get out of it, is the basic set of vocabulary skills needed to have a conversation with a Spanish speaker. This means a lot to me because I think that it is important to be able to have friendly conversations throughout your day. Also, I hope to be a better problem solver and have a new perspective on communication by the end of the year. In the article, “Why bilinguals are smarter,” by Yudhijit Bhattacharjee, he says, “Bilinguals, for instance, seem to be more adept than monolinguals at solving certain kinds of mental puzzles.” This means a lot to me because mental sharpness has always been very crucial to my thought process and the more the better. In conclusion, by the end of my year in Spanish 2, I hope to have a strong ability to speak the basic parts of Spanish, and I also want to have a better understanding of how language works which can add to my problem-solving skills.
